Macaws

Macaws are very beautiful birds that have interesting personalities. They have some very distinctive markings on them, the most distinctive is the ones up by their faces. Their facial markings are like fingerprints and each one is unique to each individual Macaw. Thee are also bare facial areas that are white and leather-like; these areas are very unique because they allow us to see their emotions. The Macaw is very social, intelligent and cuddly. They are also comical by nature. They are known for learning and improvising different behaviors. They are extremely social and love to play with strangers. However, playing with strangers is relative, they like to see how different people will act so they will pretend to bite, never actually intending to bite, so that they may see how the person will behave and sometimes they will do this repeatedly, just for fun. In the home, Macaws will search out people, they will often fly to the floor just so that they may walk around and find someone. Since the Macaw is so friendly and loving, they will adjust quite easily to different environments. They are also known for cuddling and snuggling. However if this is done too much they may develop attention demanding behaviors. To keep these demanding behaviors from developing, you could do training like step ups, fetch and actively playing with them instead of cuddling all the time. Macaws are also known to be big chewers like many of the other parrots. Chewing is a way for them to exercise. You may also notice that during mating seasons they start to chew more, it is because chewing is an expression of sexual behavior. Make sure that these birds have plenty appropriate things to chew on like wooden block toys and natural branches. All parrots scream at some point, its just natural, so just remember that the bigger the Macaw, the louder it will be.
