Amazon Behavior
The Amazon is very intelligent and mischievous. Sometimes, they may be predictable and active. They are very outgoing and is very adaptable. Amazons love to talk and are rarely shy when it comes to new people. You must watch them on food because they are recreational eaters. If they are allowed to eat as much as they want, they will have health problems, like obesity, foot and feather disorders and cardiovascular problems. Since you will be taking away entertainment, you should give them different activities to keep them busy throughout the day. They may learn to scream to get attention but will bite for punishment of not paying attention to them. Although, when something is wrong they will let you know. They do have a nippy stage that they go through. It is usually around 9 to 12 months of age. During this time you should make sure that they are socialized with the family and friends and if possible other birds. Continue to train them to do step ups and train with handheld perches. Also do towel games so that the bird is used to the a towel. They are also very active and love showers. If they are denied the shower regularly then they may start acting up and not looking as good. They will try to take a bath eventually in any water they can find. They are very smart and know concepts like something is wrong, neglect and punishment and these birds will also let you know about them. These birds will be rewarding but will also take a lot of time and devotion.
Amazon Noise Level
They love to copy your words and often hang on the words that have a lot of emotion behind them, which includes anger. This means that if you don't what some things to be heard, you should not say it in front of the bird or at least watch the words you say. They will often decide to say something at the most embarrassing moment possible. They also like high pitch voices and songs. Remember that if you take in an older bird, they may have learned words at the previous home that you would never teach the bird.
